Perfection in Dhrupad, Khyal and Kirtan Style of vocal music
Gokulotsavji is a renowned Indian classical vocal musician. Under his pen name of Madhur Piya, he has published over 5,000 compositions in Khyal, Dhrupad and Dhamar in Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu and Braj Bhasha, to mention a few, and has even created several of his own ragas.
Among the many awards and accolades, Gokulotsavji has recently been made the Padma Shri by the Government of India. In December 2007, the Government of Madhya Pradesh awarded the prestigious National Tansen Award. He is also the recipient of the Hindustan Times Life-Time Achievement Award (pdf; 189KB; 2 pages) for classical music.
Gokulotsavji’s approach to Indian classical music has a human aspect; he believes that music should be from the heart, its function is to reveal the joy and pathos of life.
As a musician, his vocal is Indian classical at its purest!
New concert in London
An evening of Haveli Sangeet in classical Indian raags has been organised in London on Saturday 13 September.
Titled “Raag Anuraag”, this will be a magical evening when the air will be filled with the mellifluous voice of Gokulotsavji. Music fans in London wanted to acknowledge the recent awards of the Padma Shri and the National Tansen Award to Gokulotsavji.
